Getting to Copper Canyon
Driving to Copper Canyon - You can view the Copper Canyon area by starting either at Chihuahua City, located 233 miles from El Paso Texas via highway 45 or by starting at Los Mochis, located 473 miles from Nogales via highway 15. The Copper Canyon train offers daily departures from both Los Mochis, in Sinaloa, and the city of Chihuahua. Getting to Copper Canyon by Air - The Chihuahua airport, airport code CUU is located about a 10 minute drive form the city. The los Mochis Ariport, airport code LMM is about 30 minutes from downtown Los Mochis. You can fly direct to either one of these airports, with flights from the United States and various Mexican cities on the following carriers: Aeromexico, Aerolitoral, Aerocalifornia, Lineas Aereas Azteca, Aerolineas de Chihuahua al Pacifico and Southwest Airlines.
Getting to Copper Canyon by Ferry - A ferry plies the waters between La Paz and Topolobampo, the port for Los Mochis carrying passengers, vehicles, and cargo. There's one departure per day that is available for passengers as well as automobiles, when it is in service. Always call first to confirm that the ferry is running as it sometimes closed down for years at a time. There is a bar and restaurant as well as cabins for private rooms. Getting to Copper Canyon by Bus - The Omnibus de Mexico runs first class clean air conditioned buses from Ciudad Juarez, near El Paso Texas to Chihuahua City for around $30. The buses depart every four hours and the trip takes around 5 hours. Grupo Estrella Blanca also operates bus travel to Chihuahua City. Local buses run from Los Mochis to El Fuerte. Getting to Copper Canyon by Train - The most popular way to view the Copper Canyon Area is by train. The Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad or El Chepe is the route linking the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, to the town of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, near the Pacific coast. It runs 650 km (400 miles). El Chepe departs from Los Mochis, in Sinaloa, and arrives at the city of Chihuahua. There are two classes: primera express (a first-class ride that departs at 6:00 a.m) and clase economica (an economy class train departing at 7:00 a.m.). Required Paperwork and Permits for Driving or Staying in Copper Canyon
Required Paperwork: In order to drive a vehicle into Copper Canyon you must obtain a temporary importation vehicle permit at the border or online from the Mexican Banjercito (Banco Nacional del Ejercito) upon entry and cancel this permit before exiting Mexico. If you plan on staying in Copper Canyon for any length of time you will need a tourist visa. To bring your automobile into Mexico, you MUST GET MEXICAN INSURANCE. Your US insurance will not be recognized in Mexico. You can purchase and print your Mexico Insurance policy online before you leave for your trip here at Mexbound.com

Copper Canyon Mexico Time Zone and Current Weather
Time Zone - Copper Canyon Mexico lies in the Mountain Time Zone or MST. The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 105th degree meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. Mountain Standard Time (MST) is 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-7). Copper Canyon is one hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone and one hour behind the Central Time Zone.
Copper Canyon Weather - The Chihuahua al PacÃfico Railroad is a major rail line in northwest Mexico, linking the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, to the town of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, near the Pacific coast. It runs 650 km (400 miles), traversing the Copper Canyon, a beautiful and rugged series of canyons that have led some to call this the most scenic railroad trip on the continent. The Copper Canyon is a year round destination. The various seasons offer distinctive delights. At altitudes of more than 1,800 meters above sea-level, the climate in the Copper Canyon area ranges from temperate to
cold for the greater part of the year, with light rains in the winter and occasional heavy snowfalls which creates a scene of great beauty. Due to the various types of terrain, you'll experience extreme climates, with cold winds in the high areas and hot weather at the bottom of the canyons, where it can reach up to 40º C (104º F) during the summer. Fall is the most popular to visit the Copper Canyon area, and is still green with a multitude of flowers. Between El Fuerte and Divisadero, the elevation change on this portion of the rail line is 7,000 feet, from close to sea level and semi-tropical, semi deciduous forest, to oak and pine conifer forest in the mountains.
