La Guelaguetza or Lunes del Cerro
La Guelaguetza, which takes place the last two Mondays of July. The most important folkloric festival in the country, this is where different regions of Oaxaca present their ancient customs through dance and music, providing an opportunity to admire the rich costumes still worn by the native people of these areas.
Dia de los Muertos
El Dia de los Muertos (day of the death), celebrated on the second day of November. Altars in homes, parks and cemeteries are adorned with flowers, fruits, candles and sugar "calaveras" (skulls). An altar always is erected in the Camino Real Oaxaca and special tours to see others are available.
La Noche de Rabanos (Night of The Radishes)
La Noche de Rabanos a traditional celebration in Oaxaca that takes place on December 23. Artistic figures sculpted from enormous radishes are displayed on the plazas This is not a typical radish, these radishes can get over 10 inches. Prizes are given to the most creative designs.
