Getting to Loreto
Driving to Loreto - Loreto is it the oldest town in Baja California and offers visitor's unspoiled beaches and the warm waters of Sea of Cortez. Loreto is located 715 miles south of the border at San Diego and 830 miles from Los Angeles via Mexico Highway 1 - a well-paved and maintained two-lane highway. Loreto is also located 300 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. If you plan on driving into Loreto make sure you get Mexican Insurance, it is required by law. Getting to Loreto by Air - Loreto International Airport LTO. Located on Blvd. Juarez, between Calle Misioneros and Calle Zapata. Tel. (613) 135-0565. Alaska Airlines, Delta and AeroMexico offers round-trip service to Loreto from several major US cities. From LAX the flight is 1 1/2 hours. The flights to Loreto are available only 1 time per day. Another option is to fly into Loreto or Cabo and drive or take a bus to Loreto. The drive from Loreto to Loreto is around 5 hours and from Cabo San Lucas to Loreto is about 7 hours.
By Sea - Ferry service from Loreto, Baja to Mainland Mexico is available for passengers as well as automobiles, when it is in service. Always call first to confirm that the ferry is running, as it sometimes closed down for years at a time. The ferry departs the ferry terminal in Santa Rosalia in Baja California Sur and land in the city of San Carlos in Sonora Mexico. The ride takes around 6 to 9 hours. Bus to Loreto - Buses are available on both sides of the Tijuana border. On the U.S. side, the Greyhound Bus Terminal and Mexicoach are located on the east side of Interstate 5, about 100 feet from the Mexican border. Take a Greyhound to the central bus terminal in Tijuana. Go to the ABC/Aguila bus company and get a ticket to Loreto it will be around $100. Loreto Mexico Time Zone and Current Weather
Time Zone - Loreto Mexico lies in the Mountain Time Zone or MST. The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 105th degree meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. Mountain Standard Time (MST) is 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-7). Loreto is one hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone and one hour behind the Central Time Zone.
Loreto Weather - Loreto's climate is hot and humid, with abundant sunshine (desertic with some rainfalls in summer). The medium temperature is 24.4°C (76°F). The temperatures are hot from June through October. These summer days have highs around 34°C (93°F) and high humidity. On spring season, the temperatures are moderate and temperate. Autumn and winter months are usually windy. The wettest months are August and September, when there are occasional short-lived rainfalls.
