Getting to San Carlos
By Land - San Carlos is approximately 4 hours (250 miles) south of the border at Nogales, AZ. The route is Mexico Federal Highway 15, which is a four-lane road. This route will take you through Imuris, Magdalena, Santa Anna and Hermosillo. There are three toll booths en route at Nogales, Magdalena and Hermosillo. the toll roads charge around $2.50 per booth. By Air - The Guaymas "General Jose Maria Yanez" International Airport, in the state of Sonora, is located 3 miles from the city. It receives flights from Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona; and the airports of Cd. Obregon and Hermosillo, only 75 miles away by car, are connected with the whole world through 7 airlines that fly direct from cities such as Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Mexico City and others. Because of its geographic location, the Guaymas airport operates only during the day, and also receives private planes form any place in the world. AeroMexico offers flight to San Carlos.
By Sea - Ferry service from Guaymas, Sonora to the Baja Peninsula is available for passengers as well as automobiles, when it is in service. Always call first to confirm that the ferry is running as it sometimes closed down for years at a time. The ferry departs the ferry terminal in San Carlos, and lands in the city of Santa Rosalia in Baja California Sur. The ride takes around 6 to 9 hours. Required Paperwork: In order to increase tourism and facilitate investment in Sonora the free Zone program was launched; a unique program to Mexico. Called the Sonora Only Program. Visitors form the United States and Canada can enter and leave the State of Sonora and enjoy the tourist attractions without needing a vehicle permit, within the zone that covers the northeast part of the state, including San Carlos and Rocky Point. If you plan on staying in Mexico any length of time you will need a tourist visa. To bring your automobile into Mexico, you MUST GET MEXICAN AUTO INSURANCE. San Carlos Mexico Time Zone and Current Weather
Time Zone - San Carlos Mexico lies in the Mountain Time Zone or MST. The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 105th degree meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. Mountain Standard Time (MST) is 7 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-7). San Carlos is one hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone and one hour behind the Central Time Zone. San Carlos as well as the state of Sonora do not have Daylight Savings Time.
San Carlos Weather - San Carlos is located on the Sea of Cortez in the middle of the Sonoran desert. The dry, desert heat gives San Carlos warm temperatures throughout the year. The cool sea breezes cool down the town in the hottest of months. The weather in San Carlos during the summer months can get a little warm, just like it does in Arizona, but during the rest of the year, especially in winter, it is absolutely beautiful. With summer daytime highs in the 90âs and winter evening lows in the 50's San Carlos is a perfect place to visit year-round.
