San Felipe, Baja California is a small friendly fishing community with a population around 20,000. San Felipe is the northernmost beach resort community on the west side of the Sea of Cortez, located 124 miles south from the Calexico/ Mexicali Border, and 230 miles from San Diego.
In San Felipe, the water sparkles and is the color of sapphires, with soft white sand beaches that go on forever. The port of San Felipe is a small town historically economically dependent on fishing and now on tourism, catering mostly to U.S. travelers and containing an international airport. San Felipe is located in a unique ecosystem, where the desert meets the sea. Temperatures range from a nocturnal winter low of 42° F to 115° F in the shade during July and August. However, its fishing roots are still evident in the large commercial harbor south of town frequented by shrimp boats. San Felipe, Mexico offers an international airport, nightclubs, restaurants, sport fishing, snorkeling, sailing, and sightseeing tours. San Felipe is also home to dirt bike and desert racing enthusiasts. San Felipe is known as the birthplace of the fish taco and every restaurant on the Malecon serves them. It is said to be the taste that launched Rubio's chain of Mexican restaurants. A trip to San Felipe would be incomplete without trying the local delicacy. Most places also serve tacos with other types of seafood as well. San Felipe is a popular spring break spot for residents of the western U.S. states and northern Mexico, due to its many tourist attractions. Nightclubs and bars dot the beach areas.
