Todos Santos Beaches
Todos Santos has miles of pristine deserted beaches, with no hotels or developments. Many beautiful beaches are located within a 30 minute drive of Todos Santos. However, the beaches in Todos Santos are difficult to access without a vehicle and it is too far to walk, and the roads are too rough for a bicycle. Take caution when swimming, because there are no lifeguards and rip tides, undertows. Fairly steep drop offs that are close to shore also exist and some beaches are not considered safe for swimming. Playa Las Palmas and Playa Los Cerritos are great beaches for swimming and shell collecting, and Los Cerritos attracts surfers from around the world. At Punta Lobos, you can watch the fishermen come in in the afternoon and perhaps buy some fresh fish off of them. Below is a list of beaches in Todos Santos Baja California, Mexico.
Playa Los Cerritos - Km 64
One of the best beaches in Todos Santos for swimming, with miles of open beach to play or beachcomb. Playa Los Cerritos is one of the most popular beaches in Todos Santos, with camping available on the beach as it is a popular surfing spot as well. Located at Km. 64 just south of the farming community of Pescadero. Playa Los Cerritos offers a beach bar, restaurants with showers and a bathroom. Visit our Surfing section for more information on Playa Los Cerritos
San Pedrito Beach (Playa San Pedrito) - Km. 59
Formerly called Playa El Estero, this popular surfing beach is called El Pescadero or Playa Pescador. This beach is not a good swimming spot, mainly beacause of the razor sharp sea urchins that are scattered all over the ocean floor. There is a small fishing village located a short distance from the beach. During December thru March, one may even catch whales swimming offshore. Camping is available. Visit our Surfing section for more information on Playa Pescadero
Playa Las Palmas (Playa San Pedro) - Km 57
Playa Las Palmas is one of the best beaches in Todos Santos for swimming and body surfing. This beach is a local preferred beach that is easily accesable by a new road, located just south of town at Km. 57. The beach offers groves of palm trees, a lagoon and rock formations on both sides. No camping is permitted and it is a privatlely owned beach, however the owner opens the gates from 6 am. to 6 pm. If you come here respect the beach and the owner. No campfires.
Playa Punta Lobos - Km 54
Playa Punta Lobos is the closest beach to town, it is located 1.2 miles south of town off of highway 19, it can also be reached by foot . The point is named after a colony of sea lions that live here, and it is marked by the ruins of an old stone wall cannery and a lighthouse. Punta Lobos is where local fisherman launch their pangas and return with fresh fish around 3 pm which often times can be purchased. This is not a great beach for swimming mainly because of all the fishing vessels.
Playa La Pastora
Located about 5 miles north of Todos Santos, take the road past The Todos Santos Inn, in Topete. The road goes down a little hill, then up again. When you get to the top of the hill, turn left towards the ocean. La Pastora is not very safe for swimming, mainly because the currents and waves get big here; often, waves can reach up to 15 foot or more. It may not be good for swimming, but it is an excellent big wave break for surfers. Visit our Surfing section for more information on La Pastora
Las Pocitas
Northwest of town. Take Topete north through the palm valley, follow the dirt road. Las Pocitas is a nice beach, however not recommended for swimmers because of the heavy surf and strong undertoe. Surfers frequent this beach especially on large swells.
